We have a reputation for lateral thinking with unique finishes, such as designing wooden frames to look like rusted metal and even sandstone. All challenges are welcome to ensure we continue to push the boundaries of design.
Our wooden frames are made using carefully selected timbers such as tulip and oak. They are finished using traditional techniques with premium stains, waxes, and oils.
With years of experience in water and oil gilding, we only use the finest quality leaf in either gold, platinum, silver, bronze, or copper. Our aim is to utilise this beautiful craft in its traditional practice, as well as steering it in new and progressive directions.
Our state-of-the-art framing booth enables us to achieve flawless paint finishes that are perfectly colour matched.
Frames can be designed and custom milled in almost any shape and timber, making a completely unique profile with texture and finishes applied as the final touch.
Working closely with our partners, Spectrum Photographic, we offer a full photographic printing service. If your artwork requires printing before framing, we can talk through the options and organise this for you as part of the process.
Installation And Delivery
We offer a complete end-to-end framing service which starts when your frame design is chosen, after which delivery, arrangement, and hanging can be coordinated.
Whether you are a private client, exhibitor, museum, or gallery, we can organise everything with our trusted partners to ensure peace of mind, knowing that your artwork will be beautifully presented, not only in its frame, but also on your wall.
Tom and Rachel joined forces in 2018 after running their independently successful bespoke framing businesses for over a decade. Their passion and expertise in this industry brought them together and soon became the foundations of this continually growing business collaboration.
With backgrounds that are firmly rooted in framing, Rainsford & James share a wide knowledge of contemporary art and design which directly informs their work.
Tom was raised in a creative environment, his mother a potter and his father an artist, both inspiring his interest in the art world. He became captivated with how design, colour, and material had such a major impact on the presentation of artwork. Realising these decisions were crucial in making the frame work seamless, not only with the artwork itself but also the interior in which it was being displayed.
Alongside the strong influences of designers such as Charles and Ray Eames, Tom soon paved his own career in picture framing becoming a pioneer of innovative crafted frames, created from his own designs. These ideas continue to evolve to this day.
Rachel's passion and dedication to the visual arts has grown throughout the years, inspiring her to learn as much as possible and to pursue a career that reflects this interest. She has always been fascinated by the effect that visual stimuli can have on our thoughts, our emotions, and our understanding of the world around us; from complex, ornate artistry to the seemingly simple arrangements of colour and shape that underpin the work of abstract impressionists such as Mark Rothko or Jackson Pollock. Rachel studied Art & Design at College in Oxford where she specialised in art history, painting, sculpture, and photography.
